Welcome to our first Let's Talk AAC post! Let's Talk AAC will be a series of questions and topics for discussion that we hope will be another useful resource. NWACS will occasionally post a question or topic along with some related information. We hope that you will join in the conversation by adding your experiences, resources, related research, etc. in comments so that we can all learn and benefit from each other's knowledge.
Many AAC professionals receive a variation of our first question:
Do you have research supporting AAC devices in children with autism?
PrAACtical AAC has a couple of blog posts with information on research related to AAC and Autism:
- PrAACtical Research: AAC Intervention for Children with ASD
- 5 References That Support the Use of AAC for People with ASD
NWACS has started a couple of Pinterest Boards that have pins of related information:
- Autism and Communication
- We have pinned the document AAC & ASD - research article reference list to this board
- AAC Research Articles
Do you know of other resources/references? What have you found useful when questioned about research supporting use of AAC with individuals on the Autism Spectrum?
